Ondo State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Niger Delta Development Commission ((NDDC) on 50 kilometer Akodo-Araromi road project.
TummyP blog reports that the MoU signing took place at the Cocoa Conference hall of the governor’s office,Alagbaka, Akure on Wednesday.
Akeredolu in his address said the road project, from Akodo in Ibeju Lekki area of Lagos state to Araromi in Ilaje Local Government area of state would start the unearthing of hidden treasures in the southern senatorial district of the state.
"I am determined to pursue this because the people of the south have suffered a lot and today mark the beginning of unearthing the treasures which will benefit this state.
"It is a mega project which both parties are interested and committed to, and before our tenure runs out we should complete it.
"When the Akodo-Ibeju-Lekki-Araromi-Ilaje road is completed, it will help decongest the Ore-Benin-Lagos expressway," he said.
He further lamented on the unavailability of power for four years in the south senatorial district, and expressed joy that the situation would soon be rectified.
Akeredolu also lamented the lack of potable water in the riverine area, and emphasized the importance of water scheme in the area.
Earlier, team leader, Senator Udoma Egba, Chairman, Board of NDDC, said this was the first MoU the commission would sign with a member state.
He explained that the commission had 785 projects in the state and the sheer number would be reviewed.
"381 are ongoing while 26 are active. 266 have been completed, 96 are either stalled or abandoned, while 42 are awarded but contractors are yet to be mobilized.
"I believe that with the directive of Vice President Osinbajo that contractors should return to sites, we are likely to see many more abandoned projec
"It will be better to have fewer projects people see than so many they won't see and I think NDDC should concern itself with projects that truly integrate the region and not ad-hoc projects scattered all over," he said.

Speaking with newsmen, Hon. Agboola Ajayi, Ondo State Deputy Governor, said the project would bring economic development to the people of the area and the state in general.
Ajayi noted that the state was the most peaceful Niger-Delta state, and promised the cooperation of people of the area when the project commenced.
