In the quest for upgrading sports infrastructure and to avert future damages the recent whirlwind caused to the Ondo State Sports Complex recently, the 7-man committee set up by the government on the acquisition of buildings around the stadium has submitted its report.
The committee which was inaugurated by the Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Hon. Agboola Ajayi revealed in its report that 42 buildings needed to be removed from the location around the stadium to enable government carry out proper infrastructural upgrade of the facility.
The 42 buildings include three worship centres and a primary school.
The Chairman of the committee and Director of Public Buildings in the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, Mr Philips Akinbola said the committee ascertained the total land mass within and around the stadium with consideration for the structures that would be affected by the proposed plan of government.
He said, “We have some proposals already for the expansion of the sports complex which include the erection of a shopping mall to curb the activities of hawkers around the complex while more other sport facilities would be constructed.
Responding, The Deputy Governor, Hon Agboola Ajayi commended the committee for a job well done, asserting the zeal of the government to make the stadium one of the best in the country.
He assured the citizens of the state that government would continue to priortise socio-economic development of the state irrespective of the conditions involved.
His words, “The government in fulfilling our promises to the citizens will continue to respond to the yearnings and aspiration of the people not only in terms of payment of salary but all other components of improving on the image of the state in the country.”
