Fire Engulfs House In Ondo (Photos)

It was a horrific incident over night at plaza area, Akure, Ondo State, as a building and properties of occupants totally got burnt.

This blog gathered that the inferno started around 11:30 in the night when an occupant of the house simply known as Anuoluwapo woke up and saw that the house was covered with heavy smoke.

She immediately alerted other occupants of the house and all ran out of the house for their dear lives leaving all their properties behind.

The cause of the fire was yet to be known, however occupants revealed that the fire started from a carpenter’s shop close to the house.

A resident of the area who wants to remain anonymous allegedly asserted that the incident could be as a result of a clash with Hausas who are motorcyclists (Okada riders) over payments. Whenever an argument occurs, the Hausas could let go of the money but may return to set ablaze the property of the person.

According to the owner of the carpentry shop, Abisola Awoyefa, where the fire is assumed to have started, however said he didn’t fight nor had any argument with anyone.

The building while burning

The cause of the inferno, according to him cannot be ascertained for sure, but he knew it wasn’t as a result of electricity, “because there was no power since yesterday afternoon till this morning”.  More so, he turned off all the gadgets in his shop.

While speaking with this blog, Anuoluwapo one of the occupants of the house described the incident as an awful occurrence.

In her words: “I woke up in the middle of the night and saw smoke all around; it was so white like a halogen light. I peeped through the window and saw the furniture’s shop was burning seriously, as if it was being burnt with petrol and the house has caught fire too.

“Quickly, I carried my child, my phone, and ran out of the house naked knocking everybody’s door and shouted Fire! Fire!! Fire!!! All my neigbours ran and as at that time, the whole building was already engulfed with fire.

“I managed to enter to get my credentials; I could not take anything apart from my credentials. We appeal to the government to help us, because we don’t know where to start from. We don’t have any other thing to live on” She cries.

The occupants of the house pleaded to the government to show concern and save them from the horrific experience.

The deputy governor shows concern and sends Ondo State chapter of National Management Emergence Agency (NEMA) to observe the extent of damages caused by the inferno.
