The Niger State chapter of
the International Federation of Female Lawyers (FIDA) yesterday vowed to
arrest and prosecute a Kaduna-based spiritualist, who allegedly
drugged and defiled a 33-year-old woman under the pretense of delivering
her from spiritual attacks.
The suspect, Mallam Haruna Bello of Jikin Katangan village in Kaduna State, claimed to have a solution to the spiritual problems of his victim, Jemila Ibrahim, who lives in Minna, the Niger State capital.
According to the story, Jemila approached the spiritualist for deliverance from spiritual attacks, but he instead allegedly drugged and slept with her, which resulted in pregnancy.
Bello was alleged to have given his victim some mixed concoctions to drink. The woman fell asleep and he defiled her.
The Chairperson of FIDA, Fati Suleiman Takuma, who addressed reporters in Minna while presenting food items, clothes and an undisclosed amount to the victim, who was delivered of a baby last week, promised that the association would prosecute Bello.
She said all hands should be on deck to ensure the elimination of violence against women and children.
Her words: “We have been taking care of the victim, but unfortunately the offence occurred in Kaduna State. We have contacted the chairperson of FIDA in the state for action. I have sent the details so that she can take up from there to ensure that the suspect is apprehended and arraigned.
