Explosion rocks U.S. military base in Japan
Pentagon Spokesman, Navy Comdr. William Urban, confirmed that there was an explosion at the U.S. Army Sagami General Depot in Sagamihara City, Japan. It happened after midnight local time on Monday.
"There are no reports of injury. Firefighters are currently fighting the resulting fire to avoid its spread to nearby buildings.
Urban said the cause of the explosion is unknown yet.
Meanwhile, the U.S. Army in Japan said the building was not designated as a hazardous material storage facility as some initial reports indicated. Also, there were no ammunition or radiological materials in the depot.
